Thank You! NYC Marathon for the AFC
We did it!! Earlier this month, we ran the New York City Marathon together, in support of The Ali Forney Center.
The AFC is the nation’s largest organization for LGBTQ homeless youth. Every dollar donated goes directly to supporting the youth, many of whom were kicked out of unwelcoming homes after coming out. To give a sense of what donations can do:
$50 covers the cost of outreach supplies for one week including snack bars and personal hygiene supplies
$100 provides toiletries, socks, and underwear for 20 homeless young people
$250 covers 1 full week of meals for 10 homeless youths offering three nutritious meals a day—I helped cook and serve a few of these! 😊
$500 covers 1 full week of outreach, which places a team of staff on the streets handing out blankets and food, and helping connect youth to AFC’s drop-in center
$1,000 covers expenses to keep 1 homeless youth off the streets for one month
Together, we raised about $15,000 for the AFC! Thank you so much to all that donated! If you live in New York, please consider also volunteering your time at the AFC—it’s an incredible organization that is having a meaningful, enduring impact on our community’s youth.
